Phillips & Company CEO Rich Phillips is now a senior member of the global  American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the largest professional aerospace society in the world. Phillips was informed of his nomination approval by the AIAA Membership Committee earlier this month.

“Exploration is critical to prosperity and human progress,” Phillips said. “And for 50 years, AIAA has been a champion of the aerospace community, advancing innovation in engineering and policy that have enabled us to achieve the promise of exploration both beyond Earth and our moon.  I am honored to be a member and a part of this rich and important history.”

Since its inception in 2003, in addition to its other areas of expertise Phillips & Company has had and grown a dedicated aerospace public relations and consulting practice, which has been led by Phillips himself. Aerospace clients in this practice area have included NASA, Boeing and Lockheed Martin, among others.

In order to qualify for senior membership with the Reston, Va.-based AIAA, an individual must have “demonstrated successful professional practice in the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics or astronautics,” according to the memo notifying Phillips of his ranking advancement. Phillips has long been active in the aerospace community. He is a co-founder of the Next Step in Space Coalition, board member of the Deep Space Alliance, current chairman of the advisory board of the nonprofit ExploreMars and founder of the Space Economy Leadership Summit series. Phillips holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Boston University and a master’s degree in public policy from Georgetown University.
