Phillips & Company Wins Another Industry Award for ‘Get Curious’ Mars Rover Campaign

Outreach campaign for NASA’s Curiosity rover recognized by Association for Women In Communications

AUSTIN, Texas – August 23, 2013 Phillips & Company, a global communications firm that helps clients create, defend and sustain leadership positions through public relations and market development, today announced it has been named as winner of the Association for Women in Communications’ Clarion Award for a One-time Campaign with a budget of $10,000 or more.

The Clarion award was given for the “Get Curious” campaign that Phillips & Company planned and executed for Explore Mars, a nonprofit organization advancing the goal of sending humans to Mars within two decades. The outreach and communications campaign generated excitement and increased awareness around the world for the landing of Curiosity, the NASA Mars Science Laboratory rover, on Mars in August 2012.

The Association of Women in Communications’ Clarions, named for the medieval trumpet known for its clarity, symbolize excellence in clear, concise communications, honor excellence in more than 100 categories across all communications disciplines. The judges recognized the two-phase multifaceted Get Curious campaign for its creativity, ability to influence opinion, media and technology prowess, and tenacity. Through social media engagement, an interactive website (www.getcurious.com), media outreach, landing party events and guerrilla marketing, the campaign reached millions of people around the globe.

Phillips & Company’s winning Get Curious campaign will be on display at the AWC National Conference and honored during the International Matrix and Clarion Awards Celebration and Dinner, on Saturday, Oct. 19. The campaign and the Get Curious website have also won awards from PRDaily and Bulldog Reporter.
