Outreach campaign for NASA’s Curiosity rover recognized for best website and leading not-for-profit campaigns

AUSTIN, Texas – April 24, 2013 Phillips & Company, a global communications firm that helps clients create, defend and sustain leadership positions through public relations and business development, today announced  it has been recognized for Best Website by PR Daily’s Media Relations Awards and received the Bronze award for Best Not-for-Profit/Association/Government Campaign in the Bulldog Media Relations Awards.

The awards were given for the “Get Curious” campaign that Phillips & Company planned and executed for Explore Mars, a nonprofit organization advancing the goal of sending humans to Mars within two decades. The outreach and communications campaign generated excitement and increased awareness around the world for the landing of Curiosity, the NASA Mars Science Laboratory rover, on Mars in August 2012.

PR Daily, a daily news site that delivers news, advice, and opinions on the public relations, marketing, social media and media worlds, awarded Phillips & Company for the Get Curious campaign website’s creative design and the clever ways in which it was promoted. To engage the public and encourage them to learn about the Mars landing, Phillips & Company partnered with TVI Designs to create www.GetCurious.com, an interactive website with multimedia, educational resources, news and information about the Get Curious campaign and the Mars rover. GetCurious.com attracted visitors worldwide and gained international recognition.

Bulldog Reporter is the public relations industry’s premier provider of professional development services, events, awards and materials. Unlike other public relations and communications awards, the Bulldog Media Relations Awards are judged exclusively by journalists and bloggers. The judges recognized the Get Curious campaign for its creativity, ability to influence opinion, media and technology prowess and tenacity. The overall campaign reached millions of people around the world through social media engagement, media outreach, landing parties and guerrilla marketing.

“I am very proud of my team for the hard work they put into the campaign and everything we accomplished on behalf of Explore Mars,” said Phillips & Company President Rich Phillips. “In a limited amount of time, we were able to communicate the values of interplanetary exploration, gain support from the general public and decision makers, and increase awareness of the Mars rover landing. The Get Curious campaign helped unite global communities to support an event that inspired millions and will lead to greater achievements in space exploration.”

Phillips & Company also received honorable mentions by PR Daily in the categories Best PR Campaign for the Get Curious campaign and Best Use of Social Media for LEGO Education’s LEGO Smart Creativity Contest.
